How to design a showroom? Why is showroom design important? The business you do in a showroom doesn’t depend only on your salesmanship and products. It heavily depends on the ambiance and design of a showroom.
In today’s post, we asked our group of top interior designers in Delhi to share their important tips & thoughts on showroom interior design. Here’s what they said!
1. Design A Showroom To attract Customers
Eye-grabbing signboards, intriguing structures, and an attractive display of products are the top methodologies used to attract customers in a showroom. The basic philosophy of a showroom interior design is to attract the person to the focus and invite them.
2. Keep it Simple
Cluttering a design never works anywhere. But when you design a showroom, you’ve to be extra mindful about a clean design. The human mind has trouble focusing on multiple things at a time. Hence, you need to give a clear map and focus on the human mind while designing a showroom.
The usual stacking of excessive amounts of products, guided by the philosophy of showing them the amount of variety you’ve got, could really backfire. Rather, keep it simple with just a select few of your best pieces in the display.
3. Keep Your Aesthetic in sync with your Brand
From the color of the interior surfaces to the lighting, curtains, furniture, and wall paint – everything must be in sync with your brand value. You need to bring consistency in the theme, that blends with your overall brand.
Even the scent of the showroom has to be picked quite thoughtfully. The aroma of chocolate in a furniture showroom would just not work. Decide each element keeping your product in mind.
Make sure your branding is subtly but strongly represented. Use of your company logo as a centerpiece in a lavish space could be a great idea.

4. Design A Showroom To Promote The Product
While designing a showroom, keep the product in mind. There’s no point in designing an excellent showroom, the interiors of which steal all the focus from the product itself. Showroom interiors need to be planned to highlight the product. Plan where and how you can promote various aspects of your products and use the art of interior designing to make it happen.
5. Customize Your Showroom Design
The basics of the showroom interior design are clear to you. Aren’t they? Focus on the product, create a consistent design with clear focus, and ensure your branding is consistent.
But depending on the type of product & intended use of the product, your showroom interiors will need a lot of modifications.
For example,
For a fashion showroom factory outlet, you’ll need to focus on large displays. Factory outlets sell in bulk & often sell to wholesalers apart from the usual slightly defective items at lower prices. High-end brands like Gucci and Prada have private sitting areas for clients with hidden changing rooms. Large display areas are important because you’ll often need to display a large number of products at sale prices for regular customers.
Quite contrary to this, sample showrooms would actually be smaller and more exclusive. The customers in such a showroom just see a sample of the collection, place an order & wait for manufacturing & delivery. Such showrooms are more about marketing the product and hence, require displays to be the focal point. The customer experience here requires interactivity and hence, a circular pathway is often picked for such a showroom design so the customer is face to face with the product.
Then there are car showrooms, which are basically retail design showrooms but given the uniqueness of the product, they have quite a lot of variations built into them as compared to retail design showrooms. A typical car showroom is built in 2 parts – a showroom area and a workshop area (usually at the back). Car showrooms are basically designed to market the product, hence the use of massive glass facades so you can see the product. The space required for car showroom design has to be massive because potential customers needs it to properly observe the product. Nobody would buy a car tucked into a dark tight corner. Hence, you need the space and great accent lighting & spotlights over each car you want to sell. When it comes the ambiance, the focus has to be on the branding – the logo needs careful placement either on the floor or in the backdrop. Sleek and sophisticated interiors work best for creating a great impression.
Now, let’s talk of electronics showrooms and appliances showrooms. The space requirements to design a showroom like this depend on the size & type of appliances. Electronic showrooms often require separate sections to display separate category of products. For example, washing machine would require a separate section than the microwave. They can’t and aren’t placed together for a reason! With such types of showrooms, we give more importance to social interactions instead of customer experience, for a person would buy only after they’ve asked the specifications and discussed the details of the product. The focus is on designing a proper circulation within the showroom to accommodate the employees that can deliver the information. For smartphones & gadgets, the design is focused to highlight the brand. The logo of brand of the gadget and smartphone is a major part of such showroom interior design.
Furniture showrooms require the top expertise for there has to be a massive collaboration between the brand and the interior designer. Each unique furniture piece has its own huge personality, and the goal is to create a stylish backdrop with great lighting to let this furniture piece shine. As size & dimensions of the furniture pieces keep changing, the space consists of a lot of empty space. We prefer keeping the walls neutrals & experiment with flooring, ceiling and lighting to create a great furniture showroom.
Depending on the type of showroom, the technicalities differ. For example, we recently delivered a tile showroom and the main feature of such a showroom is designing the floors, walls & sliding shelves to ensure the company can showcase their tile collection.
We’re sure it has already occurred to you that to design a showroom is no small task. Its importance is paramount, for the functionality as well as end sales depend on how good this design is. If your design isn’t working to favour your products or if it’s not just attractive to customers, you’ll lose real business. Hence, we highly recommend you to opt for professional interior designing for a showroom interior design.
